How You Can Help

The family's needs are great, but their space is limited. As they identify specific items that will help, we will post the descriptions here (see below).

Please check back frequently! While the public is likely to move on from our initial surprise, the Travis-Sawyer family will be reestablishing themselves for months.

Once the requests are posted, we ask that you please contact us if you plan on contributing physical goods.  This way we can eliminate duplication and make the best use of your generous intentions.

  • Monetary donations are very important.  Please make your check payable to "Union Church FBO Travi-Sawyer Family." 100% of your contribution goes to the family.

You can drop the donation off in person, or mail it to the Union Church FBO Travis-Sawyer Family,                   25 Dutcher Street in Hopedale, MA 01747.

Alternatively, you can mail it directly to Milford  Federal Savings and Loan, P.O. Box 210, Milford MA             01757-0210.

  • Physical goods will also be brought to the church. Office hours are 10am-2pm Monday through Thursday.  Rev. Christopher Dodge is available at 508-473-1476 if you want to call ahead.
  • Gift certificates are also greatly appreciated.

For the short term: Updated January 27, 2008

Giving is a challenge right now, because they have no permanent residence, nowhere to put the "stuff" they need.  The house is unlivable, and is expected to be under renovation for the foreseeable future.

The family is mostly in need cash or gift certificates to:

  • Target
  • Shaw's or Stop & Shop grocery stores
  • Gas cards

All seven of the family members (Camden -4, Kennedy -9, Brad & Jordan -11, and Lyndsay -18, Todd & Patty - 36) have individual needs. Here are a few things that would help them right now:

  • Winter crocs (size 1) and hair accessories (headbands) for Kennedy.
  • Size 10/12  silky gym pants (dark colors) for Brad & Jordan.
  • Lyndsay would like Best Buy gift cards for the purchase of a Mac ibook.

They also continue to need staple items for day to day living, such as:

  • Wood for the stove at their temporary housing.
  • Breakfast cereal & bars, school snacks, microwave popcorn & drinks (bottled water), easy meals like oodles of noodles.
  • Laundry detergent & fabric softener, dish soap.
  • Lunch meats.
  • Napkins, toilet paper.
  • Dish towels.
  • 2 pillows & pillow cases.

Do you have photos of the family?

Most of us count family photos as our most cherished possessions.  If any local residents have photos that might include members of the Travis-Sawyer family, please let us know.  We'd like to collect as many happy memories as we can.

In the long run:

Virtually everything the family owned has been destroyed or damaged beyond repair.  They will need furniture, linens,  appliances...everything you can imagine needing for any part of your life, including seasonal needs.

While we hope for their lives will get back on track, to some extent, as soon as possible, the reality is that it could take years to recover from this catastrophe.

With that in mind, the most considerate thing you can do is to donate whatever you can to the trust fund.

Your time may also be a valuable contribution: we will be working on establishing corporate donors for home furnishings, office and school supplies, building supplies and services and more. If you want to assist with the fund raising effort, please contact us.
